Silicon Carbide Sanding Belt is characterized by high cutting power and a very fine scratch pattern. Silicon carbide (SiC) is an extremely sharp abrasive grain with needle like cutting surface that easily breaks away to reveal more sharp edges. This sharp characteristic makes silicon carbide sanding belts perfect for sanding objects that are pressure and heat sensitive such as stone, granite, marble, cement, and glass, in addition to epoxy, resin, paint, fiberglass, plastic, rubber and some non-ferrous metals (aluminum, titanium, bronze, brass, etc.). It is commonly used to remove various coatings such as adhesives or paints. These belts may be used for either wet or dry sanding applications as they are waterproof and oil resistant. Although Silicon Carbide is a very sharp abrasive, it is also very friable, which means the grains easily break down and fracture. This high friability makes silicon carbide ideal for light pressure applications that require consistent scratch patterns but also makes it not as long lasting as other abrasive grains. Under even light pressure, Silicon Carbide cuts fast and is great for leaving a uniform finish. Popular uses for the silicon carbide sanding belts include concrete prep work (sanding and grinding floors and walls) in addition to floor coating removal, which may include glue, urethane, epoxy and mastics. Popular industries for silicon carbide sanding belts include but are not limited to construction, fasteners, plumbing, marine, paint, floor preparation, metalworking, masonry, welding and ship building.
